Technology at Briargrove
The state of Texas has a long term plan for technology and schools are rated using the Texas Campus STaR chart. This is compiled and rankings are determined by teacher and staff surveys completed toward the end of the school year. After reviewing our STaR data from 2009-2010, the areas that our school will continue to focus on are: Educator Preparation and Development and Instructional Support.
Within these two categories there are subgroups that help schools target their focus. We have already implemented several technology trainings at Briargrove for the teachers and will continue to do so. Our most current professional development was focusing on Smart Boards. This was held last month and was well received. Teachers left the training excited and ready to share what they have learned with the students.
The other specific area of growth shown on the STaR chart is within planning. Briargrove has just ordered a large number of Smart Boards and currently has an Elmo in every classroom. New computers were also ordered, to ensure that at least 2 student computers were in every classroom. The next step will be planning for specific use of the technology and student achievement in all subject areas. As we look at the arrival of our smart boards, teachers are already collaborating with team members and brainstorming ways the smart boards will be integrated into lessons and provide hands on activities for the students.
We have a lot of exciting things happening at Briargrove and we continue to grow as an infrastructure for technology.
