In 2001, a need was noticed to address the 21st century learner in the digital world and a plan was started so educators could “keep up” with their students in regards to technology. This report is divided into two main sections. The first section covers the four areas of the Long-Range Plan: Teaching and Learning; Educator Preparation and Development; Leadership, Administration, and Instructional Support; and Infrastructure. The second section is a summary of the services offered by the twenty regional education service centers in meeting the recommendations of the Long-Range Plan.
In the first section, it explains how technology has been impeded into the classrooms through planning and implementation regardless of the schools size, budget, or makeup. It also explains the various laws and state TEKS strands for K-12 that must be taught. In this section there is also a part dealing with internet safety and resources for schools. After this there are 5 pages of descriptions of pilot programs that were put into place and a brief explanation of their purpose and their findings. The next section is one of the most important ones, because it speaks of the states vision and what they want to see by 2020. There must be a clear vision and plan of action to have success.
The remainder of the plan discusses how the STaR data should be read and used to drive professional development and change within the school to help the students become more successful not only in technology, but in life.
